Product Update: New Hardware Revisions of NXS‑9700‑4G and NXS‑9750‑4G

We are pleased to announce new hardware revisions of two devices from the SMSEagle NXS‑97xx series: NXS‑9700‑4G and NXS‑9750‑4G Rev.5. The updated hardware platform will replace the previous Revision 4 (Rev.4) in regular production.

Why the Change?

The new revisions have been introduced primarily due to component availability constraints of certain electronic components used in previous versions. To maintain supply continuity and meet our quality standards, we have updated selected hardware elements while preserving full functionality and compatibility.

What’s new in Rev.5?

1. Updated PoE+ Power Supply Circuit
The main hardware change concerns the PoE+ power supply subsystem, where legacy components have been replaced with modern equivalents. From a user perspective, the change is fully transparent – no configuration or deployment adjustments are required.

2. Linux Kernel Update (v6.12)
Alongside hardware updates, the new revisions include an upgrade of the underlying operating system Linux kernel updated to version 6.12

This upgrade brings:

  • Enhanced system stability and performance
  • Security updates and long-term support benefits

Compatibility and Migration

The changes introduced in Rev.5 are minor from a user and system perspective. Both Rev.4 and Rev.5 platforms are fully compatible and functionally equivalent, ensuring the same features, performance, and supported use cases. No software or configuration changes are required when migrating from Rev.4 to Rev.5.

Product Identification

The updated units are introduced as new hardware revisions and are reflected in new ordering codes:

  • NXS‑9700‑4G: NXS97004GREV5
  • NXS‑9750‑4G: NXS97504GREV5

Please refer to these codes when placing new orders or inquiries.

Availability

The new hardware revisions will be introduced according to the following schedule:

  • NXS‑9700‑4G: all orders placed from May 27, 2026 will be fulfilled with the new hardware revision
  • NXS‑9750‑4G: orders will be fulfilled with the new hardware revision after current stock of previous revisions is depleted

During the transition period, both hardware revisions may coexist in distribution depending on stock availability.

Summary

This update is part of our ongoing commitment to:

  • Ensuring long-term product availability
  • Maintaining high-quality hardware design

36 hours of SMS downtime: what the Vonage outage reveals about the resilience of cloud services

In May 2026, a fire at the NorthC data center in Almere, the Netherlands, caused a major disruption to Vonage’s SMS services. Some customers lost access to key services such as SMS API, Messages API, and Verify API, while some systems took more than 36 hours to recover. An additional issue affecting the Numbers Deactivation API, linked to the same incident, continued until May 11, four days after the fire.
