Send SMS/voice alerts from Sauter moduWeb Unity

Sauter moduWeb Unity alerts reach the person on duty as an SMS or a phone call. SMSEagle sends them over its own cellular connection, so they don’t depend on internet access or a cloud service.

Uses moduWeb Unity email notifications

moduWeb Unity sends its usual alarm email to PHONE_NUMBER@SMSEagle_address, and SMSEagle turns it into an SMS.

Works without internet

SMSEagle sends alerts through its own SIM card straight to the mobile network, so they don’t depend on internet access or a cloud SMS provider.

No per-message fees

SMSEagle sends SMS through a regular SIM card, so you only pay for your mobile plan.

How it works

1

Configure SMTP settings in moduWeb Unity

Under System > Network Settings > Email service settings, set the outgoing e-mail server, port, and sender address (or use SMSEagle as the SMTP server).

2

Set the recipient's email address

Under System > Users and roles > User Management > User data, set the recipient email to PHONE_NUMBER@SMSEAGLE_IP.

3

Alarms arrive as SMS and voice calls

SMSEagle delivers the alert over its own cellular connection, not through a third-party service, as an SMS or a phone call to the recipient’s phone.

Set up in about 10 minutes

Setting up SMSEagle with moduWeb Unity takes just a few minutes – configure the SMTP settings once, set each recipient’s email to their phone number, and alarms start arriving as SMS and voice calls immediately.

SMSEagle sends moduWeb Unity alerts to the right person by SMS or phone call, day and night.

An SMS followed by a phone call

After the SMS with a moduWeb Unity alert, SMSEagle can also call: a ring-only call or a call that reads the alert aloud. You set it once in the Email to SMS rule.

Fill-in-the-call-41

If the first person doesn't respond, the alert is sent to the next

Escalation groups and shift schedules make sure the moduWeb Unity alert reaches the person on duty, and the next person on the list if nobody responds.

Alerts keep working even if one device fails

Two SMSEagle devices can work as an HA cluster: if one fails, the other takes over sending.

SMSEagle configuration

This integration will use Email To SMS plugin (see details: Email To SMS plugin). This plugin is included in each version of SMSEagle device.

  • Enable Email To SMS plugin in the web interface: Settings > Channels > Email > Email to SMS.
  • Create a forwarding rule in Automation > Email > Email to SMS. You can forward all emails to SMS or emails from specific domains.

moduWeb Unity configuration

1. First you need to have your SMTP server configured and running.

2. Configure SMTP server settings in Sauter moduWeb Unity ( System -> Network Settings -> Email service settings) as described at screenshot:

  • Outgoing e-mail server: is the IP address of your SMTP server
  • SMTP port: is your SMTP server’s port (usually 25 or 587)
  • Sender email address: is your desired sender email

3. (Optional) – use SMSEagle as SMTP server

  • You can put the SMSEagle IP as SMTP server if you don’t have your own running in your LAN and use it for sending emails

4. Configure E-mail recipients (System -> Users and roles -> User Management -> User data). Settings as at picture:

where :

  • 123456789 is your cellphone number
  • 192.168.1.100 is your SMSEagle’s IP address

5. Test if its working by going to (System -> Users and roles -> User Management -> User data) and clicking on ‘Send test email’. You should see results in:

  • a) Check sentitems / SMTP server logs if it received an email from your Sauter moduWeb Unity
  • b) At SMSEagle web-gui in menu Settings > Sysinfo > System log you should see that SMSEagle device has received the email from the moduWeb Unity.

6. Integration has been completed. That’s so easy!

Wake-up Calls & Text-to-speech Calls (optional)

SMSEagle has a voice feature that offers wake-up calls for urgent ring-only alerts or text-to-speech calls to convert text alerts into voice calls. Complete the following steps if you want to add a follow-up voice call:

  • in the SMSEagle web interface: Automation > Email > Email to SMS edit the forwarding rule you created earlier
  • in the parameter “Call after sending SMS” choose a desired value:
    • Ring only: SMS will be followed with a wake-up (ring only) call
    • Yes – text to speech: SMS will be followed with a simple text-to-speech voice call (English language only)
    • Yes – text to speech (advanced): SMS will be followed with a text-to-speech voice call (better quality & multiple language support)
