Send SMS alerts from eG Manager

eG Manager alerts reach the person on duty as an SMS. SMSEagle sends them over its own cellular connection, so they don’t depend on internet access or a cloud service.

No programming needed

In the eG Manager configuration file you enter the SMSEagle address and API key, with no scripts to write.

Event Trigger

eG Manager detects a performance threshold breach or an application health issue.

Communication

eG Manager sends an HTTP API request to the SMSEagle device over your local network, using the SMS notification setting configured in its SMS_SETTINGS.

Alert

SMSEagle delivers the alert over its own cellular connection, not through a third-party service, as an SMS to the recipient’s phone.

Set up in about 10 minutes

Setup is quick: generate an API token in SMSEagle, point eG Manager’s SMS_SETTINGS at your device, and you’re done.

Two SMSEagle devices can work as an HA cluster: if one fails, the other takes over sending.

SMSEagle configuration

Before using the API, you’ll need to enable API access on your SMSEagle device by following these steps (more information about SMSEagle APIv1 can be found here):

  1. Create a new user in SMSEagle (menu System > Users) with access level “User”.
  2. Grant API access to the created user:
    • go to Settings > Global settings > API and open the API v1 page
    • click Create API key, fill in Key name and select that user as Owner
    • Add access permissions in section Permissions for: Send SMS
    • click Create key. The access token is shown only once, right after saving.

  1. Open the ini file in the <EG_INSTALL_DIR>\manager\config directory
  2. Go to the [SMS_SETTINGS] section and edit this line with your SMSEagle API request (use an access token generated in the previous section): 
    SMSHttpUrl=

    For example:
    SMSHttpUrl=https://192.168.0.101/http_api/send_sms?access_token=123abc456def&to=&message=
 3. In the [SMS_SETTINGS] find the parameters $ToNumber and $Message: 
$ToNumber=
$Message=
  1. Change them to parameters in SMSEagle API format:
$ToNumber=to
$Message=message

  1. Save the ini and restart the eG Manager.
