When a guest registers through the Cisco ISE Sponsor portal, their login details are sent by SMS through SMSEagle, your own hardware SMS gateway. The request stays in your local network, with no cloud SMS provider.
Cisco ISE’s SMS Gateway Provider page normally points at a cloud SMS API. Point it at SMSEagle instead: the request stays on your local network and the message is sent from your own device over the cellular network.
Cloud SMS gateways need outbound internet access from your ISE deployment. SMSEagle sends messages on-premises over its own cellular connection, delivering guest and authentication SMS even in fully offline installations.
Cloud SMS delivery is billed per message, which adds up fast for guest portal traffic. SMSEagle sends over a standard SIM at local carrier rates – no per-message fees, no external contract.
A guest registers through the Sponsor portal, and their phone number is captured automatically.
Cisco ISE’s SMS Gateway calls SMSEagle’s API directly, with the phone number and message filled in from the URL template.
SMSEagle delivers the code over its own cellular connection, not through a third-party service, as an SMS to the guest’s phone.
Paste the API URL in Cisco ISE and save, and guest and login codes are sent by SMS.
An SMS code needs no app: people receive it on any mobile phone.
SMSEagle records every code it sends, together with its status, so you can check whether it was received.
Two SMSEagle devices can work as an HA cluster: if one fails, the other takes over sending codes.

where SMSEagle_IP is gateway’s IP address and login and pass are username and password for SMSEagle user you just created.
