If you run hardware that depends on 2G or 3G – SMS gateways, alarm panels, lifts, meters, POS terminals – the question that matters isn’t “when does Europe turn off 2G/3G.” It’s “when does my network in my country stop answering.” Some of that has already happened. Some of it is starting right now.
Dates confirmed by operators and regulators — as of August 2026. Anything after 2026 is an announced target, not a guarantee.
Note: for the Netherlands (KPN, 2G), sources disagree — older reporting says end of 2025, newer reporting points to a push to 2028. Both are shown here, dated to the more recent announcement. Any date past 2026 is an operator's stated target, not a done deal — verify directly with the provider before making a purchasing decision.
