Use Case

VERDI sought to build a fail-safe, multi-channel alerting system that would function independently of the Internet and ensure reliable communication for first-responders and mission-critical teams. They selected the SMSEagle hardware SMS gateway (dual-modem model NXS-9750) to enable SMS alerts even when conventional data channels fail, integrating the device into their dispatching platform.

  • VERDI’s clients (fire departments, hospitals, dispatch centres) required a system that would deliver critical alerts reliably, even when traditional Internet or data-channels were unavailable.

  • They needed a multi-channel approach: SMS, pager, telephony, etc., to avoid single-point-of-failure scenarios in emergencies.

  • The architecture had to be extremely stable, resilient, minimal maintenance, and integrate with existing dispatch systems seamlessly.

Solution & Deployment

  • VERDI deployed the SMSEagle dual-modem gateway (model NXS-9750) in their data-centre for use in emergency-alerting workflows.

  • The gateway integrates with VERDI’s software: when a critical incident is detected, the software triggers SMS alerts via SMSEagle to the relevant responders, regardless of location.

  • Because the device connects directly to the cellular network, it bypasses the need for internet connectivity, ensuring SMS delivery even if local networks fail.

  • The gateway supports bidirectional SMS (alerts and responses), enabling responders to reply or trigger actions via SMS, improving coordination.
